The project team led by Viet Nguyen, Associate Director at Amberside Advisors, supported Semperian on the acquisition. MERHL’s wholly owned subsidiary Merseyside Energy Recovery Limited holds a PFI contract since 2013 with the Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority. To process household residual waste from Merseyside and Halton, a state-of-the-art energy-from-waste facility was built in 2016 at the Wilton Industrial estate on Teesside, also owned by the MERL consortium. The EfW plant processes over 460 ktpa of waste and supplies both heat and power to nearby industrial users.
Semperian PPP Investment Partners Group Limited (“Semperian”) a UK-registered company launched in October 2007, with the aim of investing in Social Infrastructure, providing essential public services to local communities. The company has been established to give investors access to a large, diversified portfolio of mature Public Private Partnership (PPP) concession-based investments.
This transaction adds to Semperian’s growing and well diversified portfolio of projects, many of which Amberside Advisors has supported.
“This transaction further showcases interest from investors in high quality waste assets and we are delighted with the positive outcome for our longstanding client. While the sector continues to evolve, with our deep expertise in Energy from Waste combined with our robust financial advisory capability, we are perfectly placed to support investors with transactions and their M&A activity in the wider Energy Transition market.” commented Viet Nguyen.
