Budgeting and business planning model for a portfolio of telecoms towers

June 2024

Amberside Advisors was appointed to build a business planning and budgeting model for telecoms towers portfolio by an infrastructure investment fund. After acquiring a stake in the mobile towers joint venture, our client needed a dedicated model that would help them understand the evolving value of the newly acquired asset.

Project details

Client:

Confidential

Sector:

Digital

Subsector:

Telecomms

Service:

Performance Monitoring, Financial Modelling

From the transaction, the client inherited a transaction model that had undue complexity making it difficult to use as an ongoing business tool that could support planning, valuation and debt tracking in the business.

With our strong credentials in the digital sector and market leading experience in building financial models, we were best placed to support the client in their transition to a better planning solution.  Our models are robust, transparent, easy to navigate, and with dedicated functionality to update for management accounts, macroeconomic actuals, and business operating assumptions.

We developed a detailed model specification - explaining in words and diagrams what the end solution will look and feel like. We started by building a transition model that replicated existing model's forecasts and assumptions and reconciling key metrics. Following from that, we built a new model that monitors financial performance of the asset, reports against funding covenants and forecast distributions to shareholders, allowing for easy presentation of financial statements to stakeholders at all levels. And to the delight of the client - it's easy to use, logical and presented in dashboards using an intuitive and user-friendly layout.

Going forward, the model will be used to support quarterly valuation process, longer-term planning and demonstrate performance relative to debt covenants for lenders.
